September in the Studio

The mould making studio was busy this month - see the pile of 25kg bags of plaster ready to go. I unknowingly picked up a 6 legged friend while getting some lunch the other day - I think I may have done some grocery shopping with her in my hair and then brought her all the way back to the studio. A less welcome visitor is this persistent pigeon - this was just a quick fumbled snap (while trying to shoo it out) - I was surprised to see how dramatic it looks.

It is Spring, so time to press blossoms into clay. My garden is full of different types of daffodils and jonquils, plus the parrots have been busy trimming the flowering gums, so I can pick up some of the hard to reach flowers.

Last weekend, close to the Spring Equinox I painted my friend's pregnant belly with Spring flowers - and then I painted a friend of hers who I just met that hour. Pregnancy seems like a hard job so the trifling matter of a stranger painting your tummy is probably negligent. I enjoyed the process, thank you Harry for the invitation.

A few little experiments popped up while I colour tested some "clear" glass. (I collect cast off clear - which sometimes contains a striker which shifts after fusing) After melting the scrap into a block I found out it was NOT all clear so I was left with some swirly glass, which I then cut into cubes (which look like jelly) and then melted them flat into rounded squares - which I will likely press into textures next week. I love the result BUT I did want some clear glass!

Swathes of Patterson's Curse did make a pretty picture as I waded through the paddock to take some bark rubbings for an illustration. Close to sunset, plenty of Kangaroos sat like sentinels while I wandered and a Sulphur crest flitted and strutted with the sun behind its feathers on my return home. Also - how big is that ant? We chose to ignore each other as I rubbed pastel over paper for a texture.
