I have recently been convinced of the audio book experience. Not that I shall ever give up my love for reading printed paper books or even ebooks but the audio book is now a solid part of my reading habit (even trying audio books of print books). I can try out new authors while working or even doing housework and the time just flies by.
Raybearer and The House in the Cerulean Sea are titles that I have seen ALL over book social media #booktok #bookstagram. So I gleefully pounced on the single copy of Jordan Ifueko's debut novel Raybearer in my local bookstore. I enjoyed this magical fantasy story, with well told YA themes of discovery and transition but with a new to me perspective that was fresh and engaging.
After an hour's discussion with the Carterhaugh Bookclub circle I gained an appreciation for Cinderella is Dead and Rebecca, two very different books that frustrated me in their own special ways.
For pure to type fantasy enjoyment Mask of Mirrors (heist/intrigue) and A Darker Shade of Magic (a quest with an unlikely duo plus magic doors) are great inclusive contemporary reads.
I loved the way that The Empress of Salt and Fortune was set out, switching from the present (a young cleric cataloguing and interviewing an elder) to the past (where the reminiscing leads us to the action and plot).
