Books in review

I haven’t finished every book I started this year, but I did make my goal of 45 - and there were some good ones!

I loved Once Upon a Starlit Tide by Kell Woods and was delighted by Greenteeth by Molly O'Neill. Richly interwoven fantasy, fairy tale / folklore fictions. There are some incredibly textural passages in Once Upon a Starlit Tide, and some horrifying reveals that leave you reassessing the last 100 pages. Greenteeth seamlessly brings together British folklore creatures and tropes within a quest taken by 3 unlikely friends. The sense of place is very strong.

I greatly enjoyed Snake Eater by T. Kingfisher, The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, and

Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher.

I reread old favourites Mavin Manyshaped by Sheri S Tepper, Deep Secret by Diana Wynne Jones, Lines Upon the Skin by Julie Haydon, Polar City Blues and Snare by Katherine Kerr, Cecelia and Sorcery by Patrica Wrede and and Lirael by Garth Nix.

For 2025 75% are written by women and 20% are Australian Authors. For more reviews have a look at my BOOKS section.
