Dream Gate

This image started while I was listening to Lirael & Abhorsen by Garth Nix read by Tim Curry, over the summer holiday.

I love the descriptions of the river that is the border of life and death, and the gates that separate the different stages after death. I was idly drawing when the result of an overlay switched the feel to a surreal, dream-like look.

That's when I started thinking of river symbolism in particular and water generally to begin a wider body of work.
