Last Friday my partner Dougie drove us to Canberra Zoo. I had been in suspense for a week about what 'activity' we would be doing on a Friday morning.
Dougie had given me a pass for a 'Barking owl encounter' which was really wonderful. I've used owls in my artwork and I have been keen to see one in real life. BBC documentaries are great but this was better.
15 minutes went by far too quickly. I could have stayed in the enclosure much longer but after hand feeding them the owls got bored of humans pretty fast.
This was our first visit to Canberra Zoo and we ended up staying all day. I had brought a sketch book on Dougie's suggestion and got a few quick line drawings and one watercolour sketch of a resting lioness.
The other stand out was how much the Tigers 'liked' Dougie. Initially far away from us, both tigers stalked him. We and the rest of the visitors got to see much MOAR tiger thanks to the motion of the wheelchair (well that's what I think it was).
